IE6 gives web developers the most headaches, and that includes me. It’s unsecure, bug-ridden and outdated. And so, I chose to support the efforts of the people at IE6 No More The IE6 No More plugin for WordPress is my small contribution to this cause.
What is it?
IE6 No More plugin for WordPress is the hassle-free implementation of the HTML code available at IE6NoMore.com website. It shows a box, similar to the screenshot above, at the top of the page that notifies the IE6 users of your blog that they are using an old browser, and encourages them to upgrade to a more modern ones.
How does it work?
The way plugin works is it first detects the browser in use at the server-side. Once it sees that your blog reader is using Microsoft Internet Explorer, it inserts the IE6NoMore.com notification code. The notification box is only visible to users with version lower than IE7.
How do I use it?
This plugin requires the latest version of WordPress. To install, just follow the following:
- Download the plugin and extract it in your local drive.
- Upload
ie6-no-moreto the/wp-content/plugins/directory. - Activate the plugin through the “Plugins” menu in WordPress.

Hi there,
it’s not only IE6 and older, it’s also about Firefox 2.x and older and further “outdated” browsers to make the internet a “better” place.
Any chance that you generalize your plugin to “ban” other outdated browsers?
Greetz.

Hi geronimo,
It’s not the intention of this plugin to “ban” outdated browsers per se, and that includes IE6. This is just to implement the ie6nomore.com code automatically.
I’ll try come up with another plugin to include the old version of the top 5 browsers. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Alex,
I just copied the XHTML code directly from ie6nomore.com site. Send me your site’s URL and I’ll take a look at it.

Enjay, I think problem is decided.
If notification box was indisposed in some themes behind a page, it is necessary a bit to change a code.
" <!--[if lt IE 7]>--> "after a change:
"<!--[if lt IE 7]>--> "Now a notification box will be always on a foreground in any theme!

Great plugin! Just one big problem. The plugin gets put behind multi-level drop-down menus on wordpress pages where the multi-level dropdown menus are broken due to ie6…

Great plugin. Someone emailed and said they are getting the ie6nomore banner on their brand new Windows Phone 6.5. I tested with my phone and experiened the same thing. Any way you can update so these mobile users don’t get the banner?

Does google still pay out for firefox installs?
I remember a while ago they had some program that paid webmasters for visitors who installed FF from their site…this plugin would be effective in monetizing IE6 users
